Why I think the Kidmin Conference could be a game changer.

1 Comment / December 6, 2010

I really do think that Groups Kidmin Conference could be a game changer. In my years of serving as a kids pastor I have seen a gigantic shift in the culture of who, how and why kids ministry is done. I think that we are starting to see those changes speed up due to social media and […]

For my latest edition of TakeTen I caught up with Stephen Posey. For those of you who don’t know Stephen he is the Chidren’s Pastor at Church On The Move. Recently Stephen and his team were able to take over what many people call Big Church, I like to call it “Old People’s Church”.  They

Happy Birthday Jesus Party Next Week!

Leave a Comment / December 5, 2010

We started something last year called a “Happy Birthday Jesus Party.” It was a blast! We had a Birthday party for Jesus in every one of our environments. One of the things that has always bothered me is the concrete reality of who Santa is. Kids have a fresh reminder of who Santa is every

Great Kidmin tool: Group Me

3 Comments / November 29, 2010

Group me seems like it’s almost made for kidmin. It’s an amazing tool that is web based but has a fully functioning iPhone and Adroid app. Basicly you create a group of users who all have cell phones a unique number is assigned to that group and every time you text that number it is

Spiritual Parenting: An awakening for today's families.

1 Comment / November 24, 2010

This book was one of the best parenting books I have read in a while. It’s so cool how when God is speaking something to you he goes out of his way to do it in 5.1 Dolby surround sound. So often I grip a little walkie talkie and try to scan for God’s frequency

Helping parents lead their kids to Christ.

Leave a Comment / November 23, 2010

I had an idea come to reality last Friday. I have had this idea to help families connect create a shared memory but most of all give parents and opportunity to lead their own children to Christ. Over the past couple of years I have been thinking about how we can use significant events to

TakeTen: Rewards in Kids Ministry with Christiaan VandenHeuvel

1 Comment / November 22, 2010

To reward or not to reward. It’s the age old question in children’s ministry. I am one of those people who can see value in both but if you force me to take a side I will usually side with rewards because I know when used properly they work. At Redeemer we use an online

Retro Post: #102 Stuff Kids Pastors Like: Acronyms

4 Comments / November 18, 2010

I am not sure who likes acronyms better churches or the government. In the government there is the FBI, CIA, DHS, FEMA, NSA the list goes on. As far as the church goes, when I first became the Children’s pastor of our church the name of the elementary ministry was R.O.C.K. Church, I honestly still

Hilarious! I used to work as a CMP (certified meeting professional) for RHP (Randall House Publications), which is SS & CT (Sunday School & Church Training) arm of the NAFWB (National Association of Free Will Baptists)

I am right there with you on the overuse of acronyms. Don't do it. Spend just a few more minutes and come up with an actual word or name!
