In the minds of many people church and branding are words that should never be connected. I am not one of those people. I realized long ago that every church brands them self weather you want to admit it or not. You are the “weird church” “new church” “old people’s church” “church with the long services” you church has a label weather you like it or not.
Where I think church branding matters is when you recognize that your church will have a label intentionally or unintentionally and you decide to be proactive and ask yourself some hard questions. What kind of church do we want to be? What label do we want applied? What direction do we feel God calling us to expend the passion and vision he has given us. I think about our kids church brand alot. I want our name to be connected with good feelings, great moments and life change.
Today we are meeting with some good folks at Plain Joe Studios. They are a great company that helps churches and companies alike work on branding themselves. We are about a third of the way through the process and it has been fun so far. Looking forward to meeting today and tomorrow to come up with some stratagies to get our story out there to reach more people for Him.

A good friend of mine Gina Mcclain passed on this video to me it is something that Lifechurch.tv is working on. I thought it was quite clever. As a kids pastor you can never have enough tools to use and or pass on to parents. She was looking for some feedback to see what you kids pastor/parents think.
Here are a few questions to get you started. Feel free to add your own.
- 1. Would you use it?
- 2. How would you use it?
- 3. Would you like to see more tools like this
- 4. What age do you think this video targets best
- 5. What do you love.
- 6. What would you change.
I have to agree with my fellow kids pastor Anthony Prince. I believe that the collaboration community is the greatest tool available to us as kids pastors.
I have talked about it many times but my life and ministry have been forever marked by the community of kids pastors. In the past 2 years I have connected more amazing kid thinkers than in my 12 years combined. I have made lifelong friends, changed the way I do some things, challenged my thinking on ministry philosophy and practices. I have received so much from ideas to encouragement. I truly believe I am a different person because of the, prayers, encouragement and strength I gain from doing ministry with all of you.
If you are just starting out and have somehow stumbled upon my blog let me point you to some other great places where I have met kids people way more talented and eloquent than me.
1. CMCONNECT – 5,099 other kids pastors enough said, also Michael Chanley is a beast.
2. Kidology – Tons of ideas and message boards
3. Blogs – Loads of great bloggers out there
4. Twitter – follow the #kidmin hashtag for all things kidmin
5. Facebook – Kenny started a kids ministry fan page
6. My space – Ha! Good one right.
