Jim Wideman Google Easter Egg

Google Search

I have always found Easter Eggs in video games and movies fun. I stumbled upon an easter egg that had to have been put there by Jim Wideman. Searching google for the answer will do two things 1. You will be trusted by Jim Wideman – He trusts no one who hasn’t Googled at least once today 2. You will find out the answer to a question Jim asks often. “What is the loneliest number?”

The Jim Wideman Google Easter Egg – Google “What’s the loneliest number”

Here are a few others I thought were fun.

Tilt – Type in the world tilt in your google browser and see what happens.

Firefox logo in a wheat field. Type 45° 7’25.87″N 123° 6’48.97″W  in your google browser then switch to satellite view.

Find any actor or actress bacon number –

Six Degrees Of Bacon is a popular game where people try to guess how actors are connected to Kevin Bacon through movies they’ve been in. Now Google is making it easy with a new “bacon number” search.

To get the “bacon number” of any actor, simply start your search with “bacon number” followed by the actor’s name. For example, “bacon number Jim Carrey”

No Chuck Norris? – Is it possible?

Google “zerg rush” to play a video game with your search results.

Gravity – Google “Gravity” and click on the first link.

Here’s one for Kenny Conley – Walking directions in google maps from “The Shire to Mordor”

Google sphere. Pretty straight forward.

Epic Google. Think Google is getting to big for its own good? You may enjoy this one.

Are you Eric Newman?

There was a comment on Jenny Funderburke’s blog that caught my eye

“I’m pumped about this book because I believe that children’s ministry has too often taken a back seat when it comes to leadership. It’s good to see children’s ministers taking the step to write about leadership.” Mark Williams

One of the things I like so much about The Eric Trap is the fact it’s a leadership book written by kids pastors that speaks to every staff position in the church. I believe that The Eric Trap will not be the last leadership book written by a kids pastor for the larger church context. There are many things I have learned in the trenches of Kids ministry that I see as lacking or non existant in Adult ministry. One of the things that I have learned from The Eric Trap is that kids pastors need to stop focusing all their leadership lessons and knowledge on just the kidmin community.

Why don’t more kids pastors speak up? The main reason that more kids pastors don’t speak up is they are so intrenched in the week to week of ministry they don’t have the time or the energy to speak up. The other reason I think kids pastor’s don’t speak up more on the topic of leadership is because we lead apolitically far to much. There are leadership development principles that the church needs to learn that many kids pastors take for granted.

So kids pastor, youth pastor, worship pastor let God dig deep in you so you can be a resource for the growth of the Kingdom and the establishment of the Gospel. Leadership matters. So don’t be like Eric lead boldly because of who Christ is and what He has done not because of who you are or what you have done.

Last chance to register for Napkin’s reduced rate

I hope you can join me at the napkin conference this year. I will being doing a talk on collaborating with others called “Stop, Collaborate and listen” Still toying with the idea of shaving lines into my right eyebrow but we will see.

Here is why you should go.

1. Great price
2. I’ve know Pastor Benny (He’s the lead pastor of the church that puts on the Napkin Conference.) for 15 years. He is an amazing leader who has a passion for the  local church.
3. You will have lots of time to talk with and pick the brains of people like Jim Wideman, Dave Wakerley, and Ryan Frank
4. With all sessions being general sessions you will have time to share ideas and dreams with other kids pastors just like you.
5. If you register now the first 10 people that register and mention you come from samluce.com I will give you a copy of a book I co-wrote with Jim Wideman, and 6 other kidmin leaders when it releases in April.
6. Lastly but not leastly if your Administrator or Sr. Pastor are giving you a hard time about going try staging a flash mob at your next staff meeting. Here is a great little idea for said flash mob. Your Welcome.

Conferences I’m going to: Austin Illuminate.

I thought I would start talking about some of the conferences I am going to and how they are all so different and why I am excited to be going to each of them.

In a little less than two weeks I will be going to Austin Texas to Illuminate Conference.

Why is it different – It’s the first conference to bring National Known Speakers like Jim Wideman to train and equip volunteers not just Ministry leaders. Everything about this conference is focused on volunteers. It’s on a saturday so volunteers can come. It’s priced in such a way that a church can send their whole team for the price of sending a few leaders to a national conference, all the content will be crafted and delivered with volunteers in mind.

Why I’m excited to be going – It has the feel of a national conference but at the local level. It’s an honor and a privilege to speak to people and pour into the volunteers who are the lifeblood of children’s ministry. I also am excited because all the speakers are involved in a local church to me that’s huge I love the local church and when someone is apart of a local church and not a traveling expert that is always a huge plus for me. I am also excited to meet many of you.

A bit about Kenny the founder – I have known Kenny for years (we met online) he is the real deal. He feels strongly that this is a God idea and I am with him. If the church was and is important to Jesus it should be important to us. Kenny has some sponsors but is funding this thing on his own, that’s the kind of guy Kenny is he puts his money where is mouth is. He loves the church, he loves the next generation. I am proud beyond words to be called his friend. Not many people would step out in faith to equip and train leaders and volunteers to be more effective at reaching the next generation.

If you are within driving distance for the love of all that is holy sign up bring a car load of volunteers create some memories and learn, grow and dream together.
