4 Basics Every Worship Song Needs

1 Comment / May 2, 2018

As a pastor one of the concerns I have surrounds what songs we sing in church and why we sing those songs in our churches. Most of the things we say about the songs we sing are founded in style. The songs we like or dislike is most often an issue of personal style. The

What Partnering With Parents Looks Like

1 Comment / April 27, 2018

I remember when I first heard the term “partnering with parents.” It was at a family ministry conference in 2009. It was revolutionary for me as I saw parents as what the Scripture had always described them as. Parents are the primary means God uses in the life of a child to come to an understanding

Leave a Comment / April 2, 2018

“Cool is not your compass.” “What do we do when trendy conflicts with the truth?” Such important truth by Trip Lee. In the United States, we are famously anti-monarchy yet we substitute celebrity for royalty. With the advent of social media, we are no longer six degrees from Kevin Bacon we can now watch Kevin buy bacon

Explaining the Trinity to Kids

1 Comment / March 27, 2018

The biggest problem with explaining the Trinity to kids is the fact that it is a mystery. We can never fully understand it but we can and should grow in our understanding of it. It’s something that is core to our faith and therefore should not be brushed aside. The problem with explaining something so

As a Pastor, I go to more funerals than most people, as a result, my kids go to more funerals than most kids. The thing that you notice at funerals that is becoming more and more of a reality is that kids are rarely if ever present at funerals. Sometimes you will see kids of

2 Comments / March 16, 2018

I’m at the tail end of Peterson’s newest book 12 Rules for life. He is all the rage on the internet, on TV, and in every bookstore. It is unbelievable how quickly someone in our world today can go from obscurity to household name. Dr. Peterson is a professor who gained fame by his refusal to refer to

He says he is not a Christian, but needs a few more years to properly examine the Christian faith and the Bible.
He feels to me like a pre-Christian Lewis, he’s not there yet, but he will get there. That’s my gut feel, but we’ll see what happens, it’s in God’s hands.
