Free Bible Lesson: JOB

Book of Job

Book of Suffering.

(Why do bad things Happen?)
Key Point – No mater what God is good.
Memory Verse – Job 1:21 “…The Lord alone gives and takes, Praise the name of the Lord.”

Skit – Boy has bad attitude because he had a bad day at school – Have a child go to school and kids pick on him, he gets an F on a test, he forgot his lunch he goes home and is very upset. Parents explain that he must respond right no matter what. If we respond right God will bless us. Even if bad things happen God is still good.

Skit – I am a Christian nothing bad will ever happen to me! – An adult goes to work thanking God that he is never going to have a bad day ever again because he is a Christian. He walks to work sets up his desk one by one people come tell him bad news he gets more and more upset until he breaks down and a co-worker comes over and asks him if everything is ok. He says that he is very confused because he is a Christian he thought that bad things could no longer happen to you. His co-worker explains that just because you become a Christian doesn’t automatically mean that you will no longer have a bad day it means that you have someone to help you when you do have a bad day, someone who loves you no matter what.

Object Lesson – Superstitions – How many people believe that a horse shoe or a rabbit foot will give you good luck and will cause good things to happen to you? As Christians we need to put our trust not in things but in God. If you were ever in a tight spot you needed some help how many would say Mr. Horseshoe Mrs. Rabbit foot can you help me. We could ask but there is nothing that they could do to help us. We know, because the Bible tells us, that God is in control of everything that happens to us our lives they are not run by luck.– Even when bad things happen God is still good.

Object Lesson – What to do with lemons – Make lemon aid – When things don’t go your way they sometimes seem sour you can do one of two things you can either have a sad sour face or you can make lemon-aid. How we respond determines how other see us. Have you ever eaten a raw lemon it is very sour and not many people like it but if you respond to God he will make lemon-aid out of you lemon situation and you will be refreshing to all those around you. Even when bad things happen God is still good.

Puppet – Why does God let bad things happen? MC explains that we don’t know everything but what we do know is that God is good and his mercy endures forever. There will be things that happen that we may never understand but the only thing that will never change is that God is good no matter what.

Bible story – Tell the story of Job how he was very rich – lost everything – didn’t blame God – and was blessed even greater.

This is Such an important lesson for our kids ever kid will at some point wonder why God allows bad things to happen. How we answer that question is huge because in the framework we build based on the question they are asking will determine their view of God and faith for most of their lives.

  1. Bad things happen to good people – In the story of Job the bible tells us that Job was an extremely righteous man. He was good and yet lots of bad things happened.
  2. WHAT happens to us we can’t control HOW we respond to our circumstance we have TOTAL control over. –  When we go through a hard time we can either blame God or Trust God, it’s our choice.
  3. Job lost everything but God never left him. Hard situations grow our faith. Faith is simply knowing God loves us and because he loves us we can trust him.
  4. In the end Job trusted God and responded right and he was blessed because of it. – When we respond right we will always be blessed.

In Job’s life he did nothing wrong yet lots of bad things happened. Job didn’t give up but trusted God more even when his friends told him God didn’t love him and he should give up Job didn’t he trusted God. When you go through a tough time, if it’s kids picking on you at school, or maybe your parents are splitting up. Perhaps you and your brother fought a lot this week, or maybe your favorite pet died. What can you do about it. Well often times when bad things happen to us we don’t always have the power to stop them, just like Job. His animals died his house fell down, he got sick all of those things he couldn’t stop and didn’t have the power to fix. We don’t always have the power to change our situation but we always have the power to respond right. To have a good attitude and to trust God rather than blame him. I want to challenge you when bad things happen in life press into God don’t push Him away.

YouTube Friday: Two Conferences One Week.

It’s been a full week. Two conferences in one week.

The first one was Illuminate in Austin Texas. Kenny Conely and his team put together an amazing conference for Volunteers. What an amazing opportunity for people in the Austin area to be able to go to a conference that was not expensive yet they got to hear from Craig Jutila, Michael Chanley, and Jonathan Cliff. Had an amazing time ate lots of southern stuff, my fave had to be Amy’s Icecream that place is un-stinking believable.

I really think Kenny is on to something. I really believe that conferences are going to start to be more regional. I also think that church investing in their volunteers makes way more sense than sending one or two staff to a national conference. I believe conferences like Illuminate have a much more powerful opportunity to shape the culture of your staff and volunteers in your church.

Here is a video of the open of Illuminate.

The next conference is called Generation Conference. I had the honour (for my Aussie friends) of speaking at our churches youth conference. This is my 14th conference I’ve attended and it is such a privilege to be part of a church that values the next generation. Planetshakers came this year and “tore the roof of the place” It was amazing. There is something so amazing about seeing that many young people worshiping with all that they are, even after all these years it never gets old. I love the local church and I love my local church. Someone once said “The Local Church is the Hope of the World” I couldn’t have said it better.

Here is a quick video of the kids singing Hope of all Hearts with Planetshakers.

Retro Post: Pitfalls of Kids Ministry: Theology: Story vs. Fact

One of the pitfalls of Children’s ministry is we tell so many bible stories we treat the bible like it is a story book or play script.

I am not trying to say every kids pastor treats the bible with irreverence. I am saying that when we are using the stories in the bible as a medium to communicate truth we can forget that those stories really happened.

How can we remember and reinforce the bible as a History book?

1. Preach from the bible to your kids. – Bring your bible on stage don’t just use story sheets.

2. Read the bible for yourself not just for your lesson plans.

3. Study the Bible – It is easy to just rehearse the stories you have learned dig deeper push yourself to learn more.

4. Communicate to your kids that what you are about to talk about really happened.

5. Check your beliefs: Do you believe the bible is true and actually happened.

The bible is a supernatural book. It will change your life. It will change the life your kids. Let it.

Retro Post: The Devil Senses Potential Why Don't We?

One of the things I have always heard growing up in church is the devil can’t see our future but he does sense potential.

We recognize that the enemy of our soul is out to derail us from our God ordained destiny. He has been doing this for years. If you have been a christian for any amount of time or just a casual watcher of TBN you have seen your fair share of destroyed destiny.

As a kids pastor and parent one thing I think we need to do a better job of is sensing potential in our own kids and the kids that come to our weekend experiences each week.

How can we do this?

1. In your own kids: Recognize the area of weakness in your child that the enemy would love to exploit. Make your child aware of it and how to avoid basic pitfalls. For instance if your child is compassionate teach your child how to care for others and help give them skills to guard their hart from the cynicism that would crush that God given gift of compassion.

2. Kids at church: Do you have a farm system? In baseball they put young players in small towns on teams with less talent so they can grow in their gifting. All of our youth band and much of our Adult band started playing worship in our kids church.

3. Kids at church: Kids pastor are you a good talent scout. One thing we must get better at is recognizing strength and creating a venue for kids to use that strength to build the local church. When kids go to school and are recognized for their abilities in the arts but we at church say the arts are not welcome. What kind of message is that. I grew up loving the arts the only place where I could express myself was in kids church. I joined a puppet team because someone saw potential. Kids pastors ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize potential it will change your ministry.

4. In your own kids: Parents find out what your kids are good at beyond just sports. I study my boys and watch them play, interact and respond. I want to be able to strengthen their weakness and to grow in their strengths. I want them to understand that school learning, sports and plays are great but temporal the kingdom of God is eternal. You need to learn to use those gifts to build the kingdom of God.

Start today look for potential world changers sitting in your sunday school class, small group or dinner table because even if you are not looking the devil is.

The Power of Christ In Me.

I was listening to this song on the way into work today and was crying like a baby. I was just so overwhelmed by the sufficiency of Christ and the insufficiency of me. I always want to engineer my future to make it safe and secure. What I need to remember is that I can’t control my future because my future is secure through the Power of Christ. No power of Hell no scheme of man can ever take me from his hand.

In Christ Alone, written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend.

In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all-in-all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
