Free Bible Lessons: Leviticus "Book of Holiness"

– Book of Holiness

Key Point –We are to be Holy as he is Holy
Memory Verse – 1 Peter 1:16 “I am the holy God, and you must be holy too.”

What Does it mean to be holy?

Intro – What does it mean to be holy kids? Does it mean you have clothes with big holes in the knees? Does it mean that you are better than everyone else? No, being holy is being just like Jesus. The more we are like him the more Holy we are.
Lev. 11:44 I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground.
The more we are like Jesus the more holy we are. We are told in the Bible to follow the example of Jesus. The Bible tells us that God is not just Holy he is Holy, Holy, Holy. He is three times holy. That should be our goal to be not just holy but Holy, Holy, Holy.

Skit – Man comes out with Holy shirt – The MC asks why he is walking around in public with a shirt that has so many holes in it. Isn’t he embarrassed?  The man responds by saying that he learned in rockchurch that we need to be Holy as God is holy so I am only wearing clothes with holes in them. The MC explains that Holiness is more than clothes with holes in them it is our attitude and actions looking and sounding more like Jesus.

Object lesson
– Pure white snow – To be holy means to be pure like snow when it first falls. – Ask the kids how many like snow. Explain to the kids that being holy is a lot like when snow first falls. The snow is so pure and white it just shines. But what happens after the snow has been around for a few weeks. That’s right it starts to get dirt all over it and stops shining. For us to live a holy life we need to be pure like snow, we need to hate sin because sin is like that dirt, it covers your life and keeps your light from shinning.

Object lesson – Swiss Cheese isn’t holy. Ask the kids how many people think that swiss cheese is holy. Explain how even though swiss cheese has holes in it, it isn’t holy. Explain how you can look holy on the outside to others but the real test if you are holy is how you live. Do you act like Jesus that is what being holy means.

Puppet – Puppet tries to look like Jesus by wearing a robe. – A puppet comes up while the MC is talking. The MC doesn’t see the puppet at first. Then the MC sees the puppet and greets the puppet and asks the puppet how it is. The puppet says that he is fine. The puppet then asks if the MC notices anything different about him. The MC is stumped after offering a few suggestions. Who do I look like the puppet asks. The MC is stumped again. The puppet then says somewhat frustrated. Jesus, I look like Jesus. (The puppet is wearing a white robe with blue sash.) The puppet explains how he wants to be holy and he heard us talking about how to be holy we must look like Jesus. So now the puppet is holy. The MC laughs and explains that looking like Jesus doesn’t mean we walk around wearing a white robe and blue sash, it means we ACT like Jesus. We care for others we tell other about heaven, and pray for people who are sick that sort of stuff.

Skit – Super holy snob, – To be holy doesn’t mean you treat everyone else like they are bad and you are Good. There were people in the Bible who thought that they were holy and good and treated everyone else bad, they weren’t really holy. Jesus is holy, holy, holy and he treated even the greatest sinners with love. Reenact the Good Samaritan parable using modern examples. Robbers beat up a homeless man, A Christian Girl walks by, A Cool kid walks by, but a nerdy kid stops and helps. Explain how holiness is not how good you think you are but how much like Jesus you are.

Bible Story
– Gen. 5 the story of Enoch how he walked with God he was holy as God is holy.

Genesis 5: 21-24

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

  • Holiness is not knowing lots of facts, it about walking with God
  • Our closeness to God is measured by How close we are to God not by the things we do or don’t do.
  • When we love God – we avoid all those things that keep us from him.

Leviticus – Small Group

Activity – What you feed grows – Have a kid try and blow up two balloons at the same time. It doesn’t work you have to focus on one. What you focus on. What you feed grows. What you neglect what you starve dies. What are you feeding and what are you starving?
