Soapbox: Sons or Fathers?

I have been thinking this for past few weeks. One of the things I think social media and technology does is create the “next biggest thing” mentality in each of us. Google+ came out it looks very cool like it could be the next big thing. Blogs and social media are great where I think we need to take pause is how we look at those people who are the “next big thing”  I think we make the mistake of trying to learn from sons when we should be learning how to father sons from fathers.

What I mean by that is this. With the new dawn of social media Sons are bursting on the scene everywhere but behind every son is a father. Sons carry the DNA of their fathers but a son can’t tell you how to raise a son to be a man. I know that there are lots of people who want to be “Christian Famous.” I don’t. I would rather have natural and spiritual sons who do more in this life than I ever will. We are never going to see our world transformed if we are more into ourselves than we are into reaching and teaching sons to be fathers.

I don’t know everything there is to know about kids ministry or leadership but I know enough to know that what I do know comes from the Fathers in my life.
