NUMBERS
– Book of Wanderings
Key Point –We are lost with out God
Memory Verse – John 16:13 “The Spirit shows what is true and will come and guide you into the full truth…”
They were lost because they didn’t obey God.
Object Lesson – Blindfold a kid – Have a kid come forward have them walk from one place to another without a blindfold then have the same person blindfolded spun in a circle with objects placed in the blindfolded persons way. (The blindfolded person will be surrounded by team members so that they will not fall and get hurt.) After it is visible that it is much harder to find your way without help explain that without God we are lost.
Object Lesson – What a compass does – Explain to the kids that a compass is what guides us and keeps us on the right track. There are many kids, and adults that are lost they don’t have a compass to help guide them. That if we don’t have God in our life we will get lost.
Skit – Asking for directions – A man is wondering around the stage looking very lost. Everyone comes up to this person and asks if he is lost. He is getting more and more upset. Everyone is showing how to not be lost. – Point of the skit is that sometimes people don’t even know that they are lost.
Skit – Lost and Found table – Have two kids from rockchurch go to the lost and found table looking for items that they had lost, one a Bible the other a coat. As they are searching through the pile of lost and found stuff they come across a boy from school who was laying in the lost and found pile. The two kids from rockchurch as the lost boy how he got where he is and he doesn’t know. The two kids from rockchurch explain that without Jesus we are lost. The lost boy says that he doesn’t want to be lost anymore. The kids from rockchurch explain that you have to be born again to be found. The lost boy says that he wants to do that so they pray say amen and give the lost boy a high five and tell him that once he was lost now he is found.
Puppet – Puppet comes up and explains that the Bible has math in it you know the book of numbers. – A puppet comes up adding two plus two time six (he is adding out loud as the MC is teaching the lesson). The MC turns and says it looks like we have a visitor today, I could help but notice that you were doing math on the way in. The puppet calmly explains that he was reading the math section of the Bible. The MC is a bit thrown off at first and mentions that there is no math section of the Bible. The puppet say yes there is. The MC says no there isn’t. The puppet says oh ya then what is the book of numbers about then? The MC understands the puppets questions and explains that the name came because the first part of the book everyone’s family history is being counted. But throughout the whole book we learn about how without God we are lost.
Bible Story – Numbers 13:25-33 Story of the Twelve Spies (10 were bad 2 were good)
Numbers 13:25-33 (New International Version)
25 At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.
Report on the Exploration
26 They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. 28 But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”
30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” 32 And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. 33 We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
- What do you do when you see a problem?
- When you face a problem it shows who you put your trust in.
- We can Trust God because we know that He loves us.
NUMBERS SMALL GROUP
Activity –
Set up a mini- obstacle coarse with chairs or things in the room then have the kids blindfolded (after they are blindfolded mix up the coarse a bit to add more confusion) the first time have them walk on their own (be near them so that they don’t get hurt) let them struggle to make it. Then have them blindfolded and walk through the obstacle coarse with the cell leader guiding them through the coarse by putting your hands on their shoulders and guiding them through the coarse. Explain how in life it is much easier to rely on God and not ourselves he sees what we can’t just like the cell leader could see what the blindfolded child could not.
Questions –

Why where you Lost?
How did you feel not knowing where you were or where you where going?
