I remember around 6 months ago I was having issues with time management. (shocker) I didn’t feel like I had enough time in a day to get everything done that I needed to. I asked Brother Jim what I should do. He said get the book “The Effective Executive” and read the chapter on time management 25 time. Well I got the book and man o man if I had only read this book a few years ago. The chapter on time management was just what the doctor ordered. I am still working on the things Drucker encourages you to do.
I think next to the good book this is one of the first books I would tell any kids pastor, or any ministry leader for that matter to read. I would give my copy away but I plan on rereading it in the very near future and I find it very hard reread books.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes.
“An organization which just perpetuates today’s level of, vision, excellence, and accomplishment has los the capacity to adapt.”
“Every organization needs performance in three major areas: It needs direct results; building of values and their reaffirmation; and building and developing people for tomorrow.”
“Focusing on contribution turns one of the inherent weakness of the executive’s situation–his dependence on other people, his being within the organization–into a source of strength. It creates a team”
“By themselves, character and integrity do not accomplish anything. But their absence faults everything else.”
“If there is any one “secret” of effectiveness, it is concentration. Effective executives do first things first and they do one thing at a time”
“The executive who wants to be effective and who wants his organization to be effective polices all programs, all tasks. He always asks: ‘Is this still worth doing?'”
“Effective executives, in my observation, do not start with their tasks. They start with their time. And they do not start out with planning. They start by finding out where their time actually goes. Then they attempt to manage their time and to cut back unproductive demands on their time. Finally they consolidate their “discretionary” time into the largest possible continuing units.
1. Record time
2. managing time, and
3. Consolidating time
Wise counsel from a Brother is good too! Gonna grab this book today! Thanks for posting my friend, hope all is well!
When I read this book last year or so I also thought it a great book and will second or third or fourth etc your advice on a must read.
This was a book I paid to get for all the pastors on the team at that time and we all started to go through it every week together.
Great book.
