How do you know when someone is sorry? Repentance is more than to say you are sorry it is to change the way you act. We know because they change. The Bible explains in Romans How to repent(say we are sorry). Rom. 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom. 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Confess with your mouth – Acknowledge what you have done wrong.
Ask for Forgiveness
Change don’t stay the same – Believe in your heart that you are changed
Salvation is a free gift. God’s gracious gift toward you produces a change in your life. Zacchaeus Repentance was a byproduct of the grace shown to him that he didn’t deserve.
Skit – Someone hurts a kids feelings he gets mad and reacts wrong – His mom explains that he must apologize – boy doesn’t know. The mom explains the components of forgiveness. We must say what we have done wrong ask for forgiveness and try to never do the same thing again.
Skit – Mr. Not Sorry – Have someone come out and act rude and never feel that he is wrong. The MC will ask if he has ever done anything wrong he responds by saying that he may have done something wrong but that other people are going to have to get over it. They go back and forth Mr. Not Sorry says a few more rude things that he is not sorry for. MC tells him that he needs to learn how to say he is sorry. MNS responds by saying I am sorry you feel that way.
Object Lesson – Write on cardboard signs I’m sorry, I was wrong, and please forgive me. Add in things like you shouldn’t have did what you did, you were just as wrong as me to make it a bit more difficult. Have the kids find the three main ingredients to saying you are sorry true repentance.
Object Lesson – good fruit / bad fruit – what is the fruit of repentance in your life?
Matt. 7:17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
What is the fruit of your life. Are you making right choices, when ‘you make a mistake what do you do about it. Have a good fruit and a rotten fruit. When we make good decisions we produce good fruit we are a person that others want to be around. We produce bad fruit when we never say we are sorry and never change our ways.
