RUTH
– Book of God’s Guidance (providence)
Key Point – God helps me everyday
Memory Verse – Luke 1:78 “…This light will shine to guide us into a life of peace.”
Skit – Tour Guide – He guides us when we don’t know were to go. – Have a person take a group of people on a “tour” around the kids church room room. Have the tour guide come in set up a sign that says tour starts here. Have people come up to him lost because they don’t know where to go the tour guide explains that he will be conducting his tour in a few minutes, meanwhile more confused, lost people line up for the tour none of them know where to go. They are all confused lost and frustrated. The tour guide stands on a chair and speaks through a megaphone explaining to everyone where to go what to do etc…
Skit – Boy puts his hand on his head asks God to guide him. – A boy decides that he is going to let God guide him in everything that he does so the boy places his hand on his own head that way he will know where God is leading him. He has many choices between strait sugar or vegetables, TV or the Bible etc… his hand always leads him to the wrong thing with his hand still on his head he asks his mom she explains that is not how God guides us He uses parents, pastors, the Bible to guide us not our own hands. If we want to do something that is against what our parents, pastors, or the Bible tells us, it probably is not God guiding us.
Object Lesson – A large stick – Explain how a shepherd guides their sheep – Shepherds use a stick like this to guide their sheep in the right way to go. In Psalm 23 it talks about how your rod and staff comfort me.
Object Lesson – Flashlight – Turn out the lights and show how God guides us with his Word – Take a large flashlight and explain how when all the lights are out and you turn on the flashlight that light overcomes the darkness. It tells us in the bible that God’s word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path meaning that the Bible helps to guide us. We have God’s light the word of God will guide us even in the darkest scary times God will guide us.
Puppet –God even helps us with the little things – Puppet comes up rather sad because he has a small problem not a big one. He thinks that God only has time for big problems, He only has time to guide us through big problems. The MC explains that God even cares about our small problems and will guide us through them if we ask him to.
Bible Story – Ruth 2:1-9 God uses Boaz to provide for Ruth.
Ruth Meets Boaz
1 Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, from the clan of Elimelech, a man of standing, whose name was Boaz.
2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.”
Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out and began to glean in the fields behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she found herself working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelech.
4 Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The LORD be with you!”
“The LORD bless you!” they called back.
5 Boaz asked the foreman of his harvesters, “Whose young woman is that?”
6 The foreman replied, “She is the Moabitess who came back from Moab with Naomi. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.’ She went into the field and has worked steadily from morning till now, except for a short rest in the shelter.”
8 So Boaz said to Ruth, “My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with my servant girls. 9 Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the girls. I have told the men not to touch you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled.
