From the Effective Executive.
Concentration – That is, the courage to impose on time and events his own decision as to what really matters and comes first – is the executive’s only hope of becoming the master of time and events instead of their whipping boy.
Focus matters – Wow. I don’t know about you but to often I feel like the whipping boy of time and events.
Reminds me of the “Tyranny of the Urgent.”
“Effective executives, in my observation, do not start with their tasks. They start with their time. And they do not start out planning. They start by finding out where their time actually goes. Then they attempt to manage their time and to cut back on unproductive demands on their time. Finally they consolidate their ‘discretionary’ time into the largest possible continuing unit…” – Peter Drucker from the Effective Executive.
This was one of the many things I enjoyed from this particular Druckers book.
Feeling like the whipping boy after this week. Starting to think I’ve developed adult ADD. This may be a book I need to read.
