Equip: Gathering #4:God is On the Move
The last main session was by Mark Holmen his website is Faithathome.com. He shared a much needed challenge to join a movement that extols the value of family in church and at home. Below are some of the comments from his session.
The problem with Christianity is not what happens at church it’s what’s not happening at home.
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[b]5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
10 “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, 12 then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13 It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.
Equip: Gathering #3: God is With Us
Megan talked about the power that the gospel provides. When we understand that we are loved beyond what we deserve and when we will love others and tell them the Good news about what Christ has done for them. Power message and challange to live in light of our acceptance before Christ.
We need to know that they are loved. It’s the best news ever.
23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
What is the world shouting at us?
Creating an Intimate Marriage –
Jim’s breakout was excellent great blend of inspiration and practical application. Below are a few of the statements that stuck out during his breakout. For more info on marriage and family check out his website http://homeword.com/
Church was Jim’s mistress –
1. Have a non-negotiable date night weekly.
2. We would only be out three nights a week.
3. Gave his wife veto power over his schedule
We have confused priorities – We have attractive distractions
Equip: Gathering #2: God Gives Sight
Michelle talked about how we have to gain God’s perspective and the difference between sight and perspective. Below are my notes from her session followed by my thoughts.
Why do we deal with symptoms rather than deal with the source.
It’s very easy for me to think that the story that we are apart of we miss it. We lose site even though we may be in every scene He is the author of our story.
David C Cook – Tru “The Gathering” 2014
Session 1 – God Restores
Craig opened up The Gathering by sharing about our God who restores. Craig shared about his family and his life in ministry how he was broken by in his brokenness God restored what mattered most. It’s very easy to pretend but pretending never leads to restoration only further deception.
