I have the privilage of talking with Chris Spradlin from Epicparent.tv for my latest episode of TakeTen. Chris is a great guy he has a lot to add to the family ministry conversation. I first heard of his site from our Albany Campus Kids pastor. Later Kenny did an amazing and though set of blogposts about talking to your kids about sex. After reading Kenny’s posts I landed on Chris’ blog. I loved Chris’ candor and fresh perspective with which he tackles difficult situations in parenting. His stuff on sex I found particularly helpful make sure you head over and read his posts.

I don’t have much to add. I think Kenny and Chris did a great job at least getting the conversation going. If you are a parent or kids pastor  I hope you enjoy this new episode of TakeTen, then head over to Epicparent.tv.

For my latest edition of TakeTen I caught up with Stephen Posey. For those of you who don’t know Stephen he is the Chidren’s Pastor at Church On The Move. Recently Stephen and his team were able to take over what many people call Big Church, I like to call it “Old People’s Church”.  They did a great job.

KOTM Live! from Church on the Move on Vimeo.

I first heard of Kids on The Move 12 years ago. They were on the leading edge of curriculum being the first to utilize video elements. One of the things that was true then and  is still true, is their strength of Large group programing. This being said I thought there would be lots of things we could learn from Posey and his team make sure you listen to this edition you will learn something I know I did.

Church On the Move also offers a Lifechurch.tv/open type site called Seeds with loads of free content you simply must check out.

TakeTen: Rewards in Kids Ministry with Christiaan VandenHeuvel

TakeTen: Rewards in Kids Ministry with Christiaan VandenHeuvel

To reward or not to reward. It’s the age old question in children’s ministry. I am one of those people who can see value in both but if you force me to take a side I will usually side with rewards because I know when used properly they work.

At Redeemer we use an online Bible Bucks reward system, and another kids pastor I recently met uses the same system. Christiaan VandenHeuvel is a Children’s pastor at Cornerstone Fellowship. He has served there since 2001 and has been in kids ministry for the past two decades. Christiaan was recently named by Children’s Ministry Magazine as one of the 20 to watch for the next 20 years. Christiaan and I were at a Kid’s pastor get together a few months back and I was impressed by his passion for Christ and desire to see kids come to Christ. Also he has an amazing sense of humor he would do just fine in New York.

If you want to find out more about Christiaan Check him out.

TakeTen: Being Bi-Vocational with Jared Massey

TakeTen: Being Bi-Vocational with Jared Massey

I had a short lived idea to do a video podcast that I called TakeTen. It would TakeTen minutes to make and TakeTen minutes to listen to it. My idea was to interview different people in kidmin for ten minutes and release it as a podcast unedited and uncensored. The video aspect didn’t work so well so I thought I would turn the idea into a podcast.

In this episode I had a great conversation with Jared Massey who is the associate pastor at Warsaw Assembly of God.  Jared went to school and received a degree in Children’s and Family ministry from North Central University in Minneapolis, MN. In addition to working as the children’s pastor at his church he also oversees music, and youth. Jared has recently started blogging and does a great job talking about what ministry looks like in a small church, he also is bi-vocational meaning he works a secular job fulltime and works ministry full time. Bi-vocational ministry is no easy task I grew up in a how where my dad was a pastor but also worked fulltime in a secular job. Jared shares some great insights in this episode of TakeTen that will help you be more effective of a leader no matter what size church you are in.

My idea was to interview different people in kidmin for ten minutes and release it as a podcast unedited and uncensored. The video aspect didn’t work so well so I thought I would turn the idea into a podcast.

Today I am going to talk with Tony Kummer from Ministry-to-Children.com. Tony is a great guy he is very passionate about reaching the kids in his own church but though his blog he is equipping, training people from all over the country and beyond that to kids ministries in the rest of the world.

Tony has lots of great insight and advice. Definitely worth 10 minutes of your time.
