Why parents and leaders need to thinkorange.

parenting beyond your capcity

If you are in next generation ministry you have 40 hours a year to influence the life of a child if you are a parent you have roughly 3000 hours. How will you spend those precious hours?

That stat has created a revolution in ministry to families that didn’t exist 20 years ago. The implications of that stat should force parents and leaders to do a couple of things.

1. Start with the end in mind. – One of the more powerful truths that you can grab a hold of as a leader or a parent is the idea of, What do I want this child to become? Once you figure that out what you do today becomes much clearer.  Focus on WHO you want your children to be when they’re grown. Not what you want them to HAVE. It’s hard as parents and leaders to see beyond today. Today is crazy today is full but tomorrow is coming faster than you can even imagine. If you take just one thing from the Orange bag of tricks take this.

2. Leverage each others influence. – Two are better than one. As a parent I need all the help I can get. There are so many voices in the life of my kids saying things that I have to explain and counter when I get environments where my kids hear the same things I am saying to them. I am going to move heaven and earth to get my kids there. 50 years ago you had to teach your kids information so they would know stuff today you need to teach your kids to listen to the right voices knowing stuff happens 24/7 it’s the filter out information that kids need now.

So if you lead kids or have kids of your own.

1. Think about who you want the kids you are leading to be and lead backwards.
2. Make sure you train your kids to apply the filter of the gospel to the voices that via for their affections.
