Free Easter Curriculum: God To The Rescue

I’ve shared here and here about the how and why leading up to the creation of a free resource for the kidmin community by the kidmin community. We are really excited to be able to offer it for free on our blogs.

What we did was create a 5 week curriculum that unveils God’s rescue plan unveiled in the Old Testament and seen in action in the days leading up to Good Friday and Easter. I love how the clear emphasis is on Christ and what he did and what we can do in response.

The format of the curriculum is pretty basic.

-Icebreaker – K-2nd Grad and 3rd – 5th Grade
– Video Skit
– Bible Story
– Video Skit
– Application Small groups – K-2nd Grad and 3rd – 5th Grade

Also included are Family connection pieces. The Art and video elements will be available very soon.

What I loved most about this project is that it was a team effort put together though collaboration with 4 very different churches with very similar passions. Elevate Christ, communicate the gospel in a clear compelling way to kids, give the parents tools to reinforce and rehearse the gospel with their kids.

I respect the heck out of each of  the people involved. Love their passion and their heart. Each one of them will further break down what we did make sure you read their posts because in my opinion why we did what we did is really more important that what we did. At the end of each of our posts is a short form for you to fill out once you submit it you will receive a link for the content.

Jonathan Cliff – Small Groups – God to the Rescue Release Party

Gina McClain – Parent Take Homes -Engaging parents on the Journey

Dan Scott – Large Groups – Easter Curriculum: God to the Rescue

*UPDATE – Here is the link for the videos if you want the curriculum fill out the form below.

  • So far it looks very promising. I'll have to spend more time today looking at it more closely. I do have one question though. Since this is a five week curriculum, can I assume that you are planning to kick it off the last week of March so that it ends on Easter Sunday?

    • Chris, Yes we are kicking off the last week in March. Jonathan Cliff is taking a week out and just doing April. We did five weeks because we really wanted to include God's rescue plan in the old testament as well as the new testament. Feel free to do what you want. The bottom line, Verse slides and Videos will be available later this week.

  • I believe Dan is also doing just a 4 week version of it. One of the great things about the package, is it's easily customizable in Word Documents!

  • Well, you know I was waiting, and it was well worth the wait! When I saw that it was an entire month's worth of teaching, I was torn! I all ready have lesson plans for April, thru Palm Sunday that build into Easter and I feel really impressed that these are what I should teach. But I really love this. So, this is what I think I will do: Present the end first, do Easter Sunday as it is written, then go back and tell the story building up to it. Like the movie, MegaMind, start at the end, then go back. I may use short clips from that movie as another example of a rescue plan, for our preservice game. (Also that will link a Bible reference to that movie in 4 places so the kids will think of God's rescue plan every time they watch MegaMind) Thanks again to everyone for sharing your talents. You guys are great. Hope I get a chance to see you are Orange this year.

  • How awesome is this?

Thanks Sam, Dan, Gina, Jonathan and everyone else who put time into this!

I'll be sharing this with our volunteer team, more and more I've been sensing that I have been missing opportunities to collaborate with them. I've let excuses get in the way. The fact that this resource exists makes it clear that it is merely a matter of priority and vision.

    • Ryan thanks so much for your kind words. It was a blast to make something for our local churches but also for every local church.

  • We are very excited about this collaborative material and our team is looking forward to using it this year!

  • Wow! We started using it last Sunday and I just can't say enough good things about it. Our kids do not meet for regular Kids Worship the first Sunday of the month so in order to hit all the lessons, we started a week early.

I have lots to say, so I will have to break it up into a few comments to fit it all in 🙂

    • There are so many things about it that I thought were spectacular! We do not do small groups, but we were able to use the large group lesson exactly as written and then we picked a few of the small group activates to do all together. I loved having so many activities to choose from. I also LOVED that they were all very easy to prepare for. Sometimes the activities included with curriculum involve things like water or slime or some sort of Hollywood movie type of explosion. Those kinds of activates are great for special occasions, but we use a worship space, not to mention a carpeted one, that is very close to the adults, so noise level and not being held responsible to replace the carpet each week is important. Our kids LoVeD the videos! They couldn’t wait to get to the second part to find out if the kids get rescued. I did have trouble trying to figure out how to embed the Vimeo videos into my PowerPoint. We never did figure it out, but were able to just play them and flip back and forth from the PowerPoint.

      • All in all, week one was a huge success and I appreciate y'all so much. I think one of the coolest things about being part of this #kidmin community is the willingness by great folks like all of you to so openly share with other people. I have written my own curriculum before and it is no small task. For you to then turn around and offer that to the rest of us is one of the things that makes me proud of having the best job in the world. It is an honor to be on the same journey as all of you. Thank You!!

        Grace and Peace!

  • Thanks for the team work and sharing this with so many! It's very encouraging to be involved a large network of children's ministry leaders that serve with passion for the glory of God. I look forward to receiving "God to the Rescue". A fantastic title too. We are rescued, indeed…and the rescue continues experiencing God's grace daily. Thanks again!

  • Is this curriculum still available? I would love to use it for this year. I was able to download the lesson plans, etc but the link for the vimeo videos only has the intro video in the album and nothing else. Are the videos available as well?

  • Hey Sam,

I was wondering if this curriculum was still available? I got the videos and the take home packet from the link but I still need the actual curriculum. Thanks so much for all you do!

  • Hi! Can I still get this curriculum?

  • Hey Sam!

SO excited that I followed the urge to search for Easter ideas for my church today! Imagine my surprise when I realized that I have seen you speak before! I was at KidMin 2012 and took the Leading Volunteers Well track that you and Gina led. I took home a lot of very valuable material and was super appreciative of your time and sacrifice.

I am floored by how amazing the God to the Resuce material that you guys have put together is! I requested and received the links to the curriculum, but seem to be missing the videos from Week 1? Are those still available? Thanks SO much for your time and for sharing your gifts! Wow!

  • These look great! Thank you so much for sharing! I didn’t see a video for week 1. Is there another link for that one?
    Thank you!

  • Hi all. Thank you for putting this together. It confirms what the Lord laid on my heart yesterday to teach the Children over the Easter season. You see our theme for the year is ‘”Let Your Light Shine’, the topics that came to mind were
1 The Light comes to the world
    2 The Light grows
    3 The Light serves
    4 The Light is crucified
    5 The Light lives
    God bless you all.

  • Was searching around to find an Easter curriculum for the weeks leading up to Easter – so glad to be able to stumble upon this free resource! Looking forward to trying it out!
