Free Bible Lesson: 1 & 2 Kings

1 & 2 Kings

– Book of sowing and reaping

Key Point –What you do to others will be done to you.
Memory Verse – Job 4:8 “…only those who plant seeds of seeds of evil harvest trouble.”

Skit – 2 people sows seeds one sows a bad seed gets bad tasting fruit the other sows good fruit and gets good tasting fruit – One person comes out pretending to toss seeds around saying things like “I am going to do what I want”, “I am going to watch that TV show my parents don’t want me to” ect… He is planting bad seeds. Another planter comes out pretending to toss seeds he is saying things like “I am going to read my bible”, “I am going to listen to my parents” ect…He is planting good seeds. The bad seed guy makes fun of the good seed guy saying that his fruit is going to taste bad. They each take an apple and the guy who planted the good seed takes a bite of his perfect apple, while the bad seed guy takes a bite of his apple and it is rotten and brown he is grossed out and shows the kids his bad apple and doesn’t know why it turned out so bad. (The bad apple is made by punching a bunch of holes in the back of the apple then letting it sit out all night or put it under a hairdryer so that the air will turn the inside brown.) The MC will take both apples and show the kids the difference between planting good and bad seeds in your life.

Skit – Two people come out to plant a garden. – While the MC is talking two people come out confused about where they are supposed to plant the garden. They heard the MC talking about sowing seeds and they are ready to plant a garden. The MC explains that he was talking about how in the Bible it talks about sowing seeds meaning your actions. What you do and say are seeds. You can say nice things encouraging things like you are so talented God is going to really use you. Or you can plant bad seeds meaning you can say things like “you are never going to be or do anything good.” The gardeners are a bit confused at first then they understand that we are not planning a garden in the ground but in our hearts and what we say and do determines whether we will have fruit or weeds in our life.

Object Lesson
– Punching bag – Hit it and it comes back to hit you. – Everything we say are do has a consequence. If I say that I am no good that others are no good I am planting seeds that will affect me and others around me. It is like this punching bag I can hit it and think that me hitting the punching bag will make me feel better but it won’t. The bag actually comes back after you hit it and hits you. It’s like that principle in the Bible what you sow you will reap. I would be crazy if I thought that I would get an apple tree by planting a watermelon seed wouldn’t I. Yes! We need to make sure we are sowing the love of Jesus into all those around us.

Object Lesson – Bring in a dog or a picture of a dog and explain how if you treat the dog well it will be nice if you treat it bad it will be mean. – How we treat this puppy will determine what kind of a dog it will be. If we sow love into this puppy it will grow up to be a loving dog, but if we sow hate the puppy will grow up to be a mean dog. People are much the same way. We need to be always sowing love into peoples lives.

Puppet – Puppet comes up and explains how in a few weeks he is going to have more toys than anyone. MC asks how the puppet is going to get toys he listened in [your kids ministry]. MC explain you sow what you reap whatever you plant will grow. There is no such thing as toy seed so you are going to get something other than toys. Puppet comes back and is sad he planted a bunch of beans not toys.

Bible Story

Galatians 6:6-10
Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.

7Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature[a]will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

1. You get what you plant
– Have a plant up with you and a seed explain that seeds can only become like the plant they were taken from.  You will never get an apple seed to produce watermelons ect….. If you want others to be kind to you be kind to others.

2. Plant eternal things – some people spend their lives doing things that make them happy and don’t care for others. They work for money to buy things. The apostle paul is saying that we need to sow not according to our own nature or own desires, all the things we want but we need to spend time sowing eternal seeds. What is an eternal seed? Focusing on building God’s kingdom, practicing righteousness, peace and joy and by showing others about God’s rescue plan for their life.

3. Don’t give up – Plants don’t grow overnight if you sit and stare at a plant you are going to get board, discouraged and give up. If you keep doing the right thing over and over you will see good results. It’s can be discouraging to keep watering a seed when you can’t even see that’s it there but if you keep watering it. You will see that one day it will pop out of the soil.

Don’t give up doing what’s right show righteousness, peace and joy towards others and you will see that God will do great things in your life and in the lives of others. Because how you treat others in how you will be treated the seeds you plan will produce either good or bad fruit the choice is yours.

Small Group –

Activity – Have two kids get up and stand with their left foot on a marked spot on the floor. Have them grab each other’s left hand see, which kid, can pull the other off balance. Who ever kid that can maintain their balance will win. Explain to the kids that just like in the game we just played our actions affected other. In life our words affect one another. The things we do affect one another. What we sow we will reap.
