Modesty guidelines for girls.

My daughter is 10 months old but having worked with pre-teen girls now for quite a few years my wheels are turning thinking how I am going to handle certain situations that will inevitably come up. One of those will no doubt be modesty. I came across this post Are Your Daughters Looking Sexy?

Her are some guidelines for your teenage daughter that Michael Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers, gave his daughters. They are worthy of pinning to their bedroom mirror.

  • If you have trouble getting into it or out of it, it is probably not modest.
  • If you have to be careful when you sit down or bend over, it is probably not modest.
  • If people look at any part of your body before looking at your face, it is probably not modest.
  • If you can see your most private body parts or an outline of those parts under the fabric, it is probably not modest.

  • You're so legalistic…

Totally kidding – you're AWESOME! Just thought I'd spread some of the Christian hate mail I get when I post stuff along these lines. 🙂

  • this is great but what if your a grown up girl and you got fat is it ok to squeeze into your clothes then??? jk
I like this…a friend gave me a book on teaching your daughtetr modesty and Rache and I have talked about it a lot ever since she was small

  • My wife and I continually encourage parents to look ahead to the "mile-marker" discussions you'll have with your kids. Modesty, Sex and other such conversations need to be thought out 1st. – When parents don't prepare for these intersections, they often miss them.

  • Those are really good guidelines. I would like to add a thought for parents. Start practicing these immediately! I have seen the teeny tiny, way to mature, clothes on infants and toddlers because people think it is cute to see a baby looking like an adult. If you allow your kids to wear these clothes while they are still young enough that you are the only one making the choice, you will have a much more difficult time explaining why it was okay then and it isn’t now. Just a thought!
